Kuzhi Paniyaram


Kuzhi Paniyaram is a snack made in almost all South Indian households. It is easy to make, and uses ingredients that can easily be found at home. A delightful combination of crunchiness on the outside, and soft, melt-in-the-mouth texture inside. You need a Paniyaram pan/mould which is easily available in shops.


Ingredients :


  • Idly/Dosa Batter - 2 cups
  • Green chillies     -1 or 2
  • Ginger                - small piece
  • Curry leaves
  • Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Chopped onion  -1/4 cup
  • Mustard seeds    - 1 tsp
  • Oil to fry
  • Salt to taste.

Method :

  • Take 2 tps of oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves, chopped ginger, chilly, and onion.
  • Fry till the onion becomes translucent.
  • Add these to the dosa batter.
  • Add coconut and salt and mix well.
  • Place the paniyaram mould on the stove, and add oil in each hole.
  • Add batter till each hole is 3/4th filled, after the oil is heated.
  • Let it get cooked for around 2-3 minutes, and then turn it with a skewer.
  • Cook till it becomes golden brown.
  • Serve hot with chutney or gunpowder.
