Dried Beans Gravy

I made this gravy using dried beans, you could substitute this with either rajma (kidney beans) or soya beans or even dried grean peas. Great combination for rotis. Here is the recipe :

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup dried beans.
  • 3 ripe tomatoes.
  • 2 onions.
  • 3 red chillies.
  • 1 tsp ginger paste.
  • 1 tsp garam masala.
  • 2 tsps cumin powder.
  • 1 tsp fennel powder.
  • 1 tsp butter.
  • salt to taste.
  • chopped cilantro to top.
Method :
  • Soak the dried beans for around  6 hours, and boil it with some salt.
  • Blend together tomatoes, onions, red chillies and ginger paste.
  • In a pan heat butter, add the blended puree.
  • Add garam masala, salt, cumin powder and fennel powder.
  • Mix and let it simmer for around 3 minutes. Add some water if you want a runny gravy.
  • Add the dried beans and mix well.
  • Top with cilantro and serve with roti.
